Apply what you’ve learned from effective leaders to motivate teams

“You do not need books or psycho babble to work out how to motivate people. Start by thinking about the best boss you have ever worked for. What did the boss do to motivate you so well? Do you do the same things with your team?” —Jo Owen (Photo: Dennis Sparks)

We often know more about a subject than we initially think we do. In this blog post Jo Owen reminds us of things we are likely to already know about motivating others—in this case creating energy in teams. Owens asks us to begin by looking to leaders we regard as effective, an approach that can produce good ideas and strategies related to many important issues.

Take a moment now to . . .

• identify a quality or behavior demonstrated by an effective leader you have known and would like to emulate, and

• review Owen’s suggestions and note one or two that you can use in motivating others.
